a fleshy fella who means serious business. dark and deep in colour. intense nose of black fruit, peppercorn, liquorice and old smoke. tannins are finely textured and not at all rough. this is a powerful wine, yet part of the power is in the restraint of the winemaker not to go all in. we love the magliano wines for their purity and uncompromising style – they are not making wine just to please the crowd.
beef is the obvious choice. whether a well aged grilled fiorentina steak or a slow cooked daube. but also bolito misto with its myriad flavours and textures, served with piercing salsa verde.
it will absolutely stand up well to dark game; venison, wild duck & hare.
this syrah has been aged 14-18 months in toasted, new barriques.
organic certified, maremma based producer. established in 1996 it’s one of the youngest of maremma’s big boy club. the owner, Agostino Lenci was actually a very successful footwear designer before he decided to pursue his real passion, wine.
having received organic certification in 2011, it didn’t take magliano a long time to decide to go for the biological one too, and the vintage of 2014 was the first one to have both.
